We are limited on the choices of American television shows in Guatemala, but we can always count on Andy Griffith, Cops, and Shark Tank being available. When it is late at night, I usually have to settle for Shark Tank as my only choice. The point of the show is to create something new, receive advise/money from an investor, and make a lot of money. Sometimes I am baffled at the amount of money people invest on their inventions as entrepreneurs. Many of them are willing to invest their time, money, and resources in order to take an unknown risk. This week I watched as one man invested 3 million dollars into his new invention. I can’t even fathom that amount of money. I was more shocked when the “experts” told him that he would not see a return on his investment and he basically wasted his money. Do not get me wrong–I think God uses smart business people to make an eternal difference and to bless other people. I have a lot of respect for people who are successful in the business world. However, this particular episode left me thinking about how many earthly investments we make that have no return on eternity. How many things require our time and money, but leave us no seeing a return on our investment?
“The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.”
Many of you have joined together with us as we are investing in the lives of children. Children who need to be loved, fed, and educated. Children who need to know that God has a purpose for their lives. Children who need to know the love and salvation found through Christ. Children who need to be provided a “safe” place to enjoy childhood. Children who need to hear Truth spoken over their lives.
This month the children are learning Psalm 139:14 in English and Spanish. “I praise you because I am wonderfully and fearfully made.” Sometimes when the children are in stations I will hear them humming the words to the song in the following video. Our prayer is they are constantly reminded of how the God of the universe wonderfully and fearfully created them.
