Very few people know my obsession with the doors in Antigua. They are beautiful and unique. I really don’t know why I love looking at all of the doors, and I never talk to others about doors (not the most exciting conversation starter).
There is a restaurant on the outside of Antigua where Soy and I would occasionally go to eat. As we would leave the parking garage, I would always stare at a rustic, teal double door located directly in front of the garage. Every single time I made the comment “Those are my favorite doors!” This is one of the details in which only Soy would have known about me.
It was May 2024 and I was giving a tour of our school to several people from other ministries. It was my first time to meet the people in the group, but they were aware of my situation. They had heard about me but they did not know me. I was busy rattling off the mission and vision of our school while trying to avoid giving any personal information about myself. At the time, I was not emotionally ready to share intimate parts of my story so I nervously talked to avoid any personal questions.
A couple of the ladies from the group were conversing with me about life. I honestly don’t even remember our conversations, but I remember their gentle spirit and kindness towards me. One of the ladies asked if she could share with me about her dream from the previous night.
She began to share how she went to bed with the anticipation of meeting me the following day. She lied in the bed asking the Lord why and how I could return to Guatemala after such tragedy in my life. This particular night in her dream she asked the Lord “Why would Deidra return to Guatemala?” She said, “In my dream, the Lord showed me a beautiful, old, rustic door. It was an antique door like the ones in Antigua. It was the color teal. Over the rustic, teal door there were words written above the arch. The words simply read ‘She is My Hands’”
I stood in silence. At that time, I could not hear from the Lord. Yet the Lord spoke to me through His people. In his goodness, He used an intimate detail to give me loving affirmation that He is with me.
