We had landed in Guatemala with our 3 babies and we were physically and emotionally exhausted. Thankfully, we had previously traveled to Guatemala and set up our apartment. We were thrilled to enter our apartment after delays and a long ride to the mountain. No one had to rock us to sleep that night.
The next morning we woke up to the realization that Guatemala was our permanent home. I vividly remember sitting down at the kitchen table with a notebook and a pen. I was ready to take on all of Guatemala. I told Soy that we need to make a strategy on ways we will reach the people in Guatemala. I will never forget the look on his face. He calmly looked at me and said, “Why don’t we just spend today buying bread, milk, sugar. We need food.” Food—Good Idea!
I am geared to always have multiple plans for everything. I am always thinking of ways to be more effective, new strategies, etc. Soy was complete opposite as he lived for the moment. Can you guess which one of us stayed exhausted and stressed?
At the end of 2024, I began to ask God what I need to do in 2025. My question to God was ‘What’s next?” What I meant was that I wanted God to provide me with a clear road map on where we are and where we are going. I needed multiple plans and strategies.
His answer to me was very simple, ‘Walk very close to me!”
Not the answer that I wanted to hear. I really like to be three steps ahead of everyone. I like to be prepared. I like to run ahead even if it leaves me exhausted.
And yet during this season, I am continuously learning to walk very close to the Father. To not run ahead. To not worry. To not become exhausted. To rest in Him. To stay close to Him. To hear Him even when He whispers. To turn off the outside noise. To trust. To wait.
Does this mean that I am calmly walking with the Lord? Hmmmm…No! This means I have to surrender every day—every hour—from my idol of control.
I am grateful to serve a patient God who is leading the way while walking beside me.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
