God is Love.

So many people have contacted me to ask how we are doing, to offer encouraging words, and to tell us of their prayers.  We are extremely grateful for each of you.   I may not respond to every email or text message, but we read them.  In reality, we have been adjusting to our “new normalcy” in Guatemala for only 7 weeks.

Throughout the month of October, I talked to my girls a lot about trusting God.  We talked about the fact that we have two choices—We can choose to trust God with everything or We can choose to not trust Him at all.  We asked all of the hard questions.  As a mother, I made a long list of all of my “What If’s”.   We talked about the choice to trust God even when we do not understand.   The answer to the question always remained the same—We CHOOSE to trust God.

One November morning, I asked my girls the question “Can you tell me a characteristic of God?”   I was completely expecting the answer to be centered around God being trustworthy and faithful.  After all, I had been focusing on these characteristics for the past month.

Without hesitation, Audrey answered “God is Love.”   Sydney said, “God is all powerful.”   Lizzi responded, “He is the one and only true God.”

As I listened to them respond, I sat in silence.  I asked myself if I could respond the same even after my world has been shattered.   My responses would tend to be more like “If God is love then why….  If God is all powerful then He could have….   If God is the one true God then why would He allow….”

And yet for my girls the answers are simple.  God is love…..(even in a world of darkness).   God is all powerful… (even when we don’t understand His plans).   God is the one true God….(and this is why He is trustworthy).

God Is Love.  God is All Powerful.  God is the One and Only.   God is Faithful.  God is Trustworthy.  God is Light.  God is Good.   God is Worthy.  God is Merciful.  God is Unchanging.   Period.
