Here is our February challenge for our 11th grade students and our teachers: There are 30 Bible verses for them to memorize. Each Bible verse is worth Q5 in Spanish and Q5 in English. They have the opportunity to win up to Q300! If everyone in the class memorizes the Bible verses, then the class will win a pizza party. If their teacher memorizes the verses then the class will win an ice cream party!
This past November, I was joking with my girls about the buying a house on the beach. My nine year old quickly looked at me and said, “Don’t you know that you are not suppose to ever build a house in the sand.” She was serious as she took the Biblical teaching very literal.
A couple of months ago, Jonathan was getting ready to translate for a preacher. I asked him if he knew the reference verse from the preacher. He replied, “Yes I know it because one time you gave me money for each Bible verse I memorized.” I do not remember this, but Jonathan knows the verses because of a little incentive several years ago.
Over the past several months, I have reflected on the foundation of my life, my daughters’ lives, the lives of our students. I have asked myself, “How strong is our foundation?”
The storms of life will come. Since we live in a world of sin, there will be difficulty in our lives. However, our lives must be built on the Truth from the Bible and not the lies from Satan. No one builds the foundation of the house during the storm. The foundation of the house is built before the storm. This is true for your life. Build your life with a strong foundation based on the Bible and you will be able to pass through the storm with confidence and hope.
Are we seriously going to pay our students to memorize Bible verses? Yes! 100% worth every single penny!
Matthew 7 says, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
