How can a cake and a cow meet the greatest need in the lives of our families?
When generous people spend a holiday weekend baking, decorating, and auctioning cakes then a lot of donations can be designated to meet needs.
When a generous donor donates a cow to be auctioned!!!!
When people understand the auction is a lot of fun but the cause is so much greater than a cake or a cow.
What is the greatest need? Food!
“One in two minors suffers from chronic malnutrition in Guatemala. Guatemala is the first country in Latin America and the sixth in the world in cases of child malnutrition. More than four million people do not receive adequate food in the country, who base their diet on corn.“(https://reliefweb.int/report/guatemala/malnutrition-guatemala-devastating-children)
We work hard to provide a nutritional breakfast and lunch for every student at our school. However, we always worry when we have a school break or some children don’t have food on the weekends. The money from the cake auction allows us to provide food for the school breaks as well as having food bags for some of our at risk children. Last year, we provided 1500 food bags for our families. These food bags averaged about $25 per bag. This relieved the pressure for many of our families who simply try to provide food on a daily basis.
Tonight, there will be a ton of food, a lot of laughter, and delicious cakes at Friendship Baptist Church. Our prayer is that every single person will truly understand how grateful we are for their love for the children.
